Remembering Katheryn

I first met Katheryn through David and, over the years, we became good friends. Our sons were born only 6 months apart, and Henry and I would go up to Teddington for lunch and playtime with her and Oscar when we could.

Earlier this year, Katheryn came to stay with us in Italy. The whole family was supposed to come but David couldn't make it at the last minute and she decided to come with Oscar anyway.

We had beautiful weather – sunny and mild for February - so we spent most of the time outside. I remember Katheryn saying how lovely it was to have a weekend away with Oscar, who was on fantastic form, a happy little chap exploring the house and garden. She discovered that weekend that Oscar was growing into a typical little boy: as soon as they arrived, he fell with glee on our son's array of cars, tractors, diggers, trucks etc and didn't even want to pause for mealtimes. Katheryn promised him faithfully they would go shopping when they returned home.

We had many heart-to-hearts over the years, she was always good to talk to. I miss our lunches and our snatched moments of adult conversation in the midst of our playing children and wish they didn't have to end. She was a kind and generous person and a lovely mother. We all miss you very much.

Much love, Tessa
