I met Katie when she started dating Dave,we probably met at the party that they did,but we could never pin that moment down - must be the sign of the fun we were having - a theme that continued! We became very firm friends very quickly, but I think Katie was one of those friends that you felt you had known forever. I enjoyed the openess and honestly of our friendship, together with the adventures. I was over the moon when Katie invited me to her and Dave's wedding on Friday the 13th January 2006, and far from the infamous date is was a day of happiess, joy and laughter. It was a day to remeber, a very different wedding - afternoon tea,an art gallery and dinner.
I always felt that time with Katie was full. None more so than one of nights out in London. All dressed up we headed off to watch a tango show in Covent Garden, followed my a late dinner in the crazy restaurant (a favourite of Katie,Sal's and mine - god we had some discussions there!) and then of course to kick our heals! We ended up in some club courtesy of a very young Romainian man that we asked where was the place to be was. Of course we had no idea that free drinks all night and no fee entrance = we had met the european mafia! Well, that's what we liked to think as we scarpered back home in a rickshaw at silly o'clock. I remeber us telling Dave the next day that we had had 4 nights out in one.
There are so many thougts and memories that I have. I think over them everyday, normally whilst driving with Blondie blaring - far from it being a sad song, there couldn't have been a better song than Atomic to choose to represent her energy and fun,and of course her love of dancing! For me, Katie was a whole friend, someone to share all times good and bad. She supported me through tough times and when I needed someone to reassure me she did. She laughed, danced, talked, discussed, cared, listened and supported. I loved the times with her,Dave and Oscar - just hanging out drinking wine(not Oscar of course! - Katie was far too good a Mum) and putting the world to rights or maybe just laughing at it! The ease that there was with Dave and Katie was lovely and it resonated in their home, I felt at home with them. It was a pleasure to see Katie become a Mum,something that looked so natural to her,and of course to see Oscar being her total pride and joy.
There is so much that I'm sure we could all say,but if I could I would say... thank you Katie for your friendship, I feel lucky to have been your friend and I miss you very much.
PS I hope you are dancing!
Love Clare x
